APRIL 14, 2010

Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on April 14, 2010 at 6:30 PM. Present were Board Chair Miriam Curnin; Trustees David Birch, Pamela Dubitsky, John McGarr, Maureen LeBlanc, Joan Macfarlane, and Carolyn Parlato; Village of Larchmont Liaison Marlene Kolbert; Friends of the Library Liaison Harriet Kline and Library Director Diane Courtney.

The Board reviewed the minutes of the Board meeting of March 10, 2010. Upon motion of Trustee Parlato seconded by Trustee LeBlanc, the minutes were unanimously approved as presented.

Ms. Kline reported that the April 11 program on Aging in Place was very well attended. It traced the history of the movement, why it is right for our community, and what the local initiative At Home on the Sound is doing. On April 25th the Friends will celebrate the publication of the fourth Westchester Review: Larchmont and Mamaroneck authors will read from their works. The Friends will also participate in the Environmental Summit on April 24th; they have taken a table to showcase some of the Librarys holdings in the subject. Trustee Kolbert urged everyone to attend: the Director noted that LPLs Childrens librarian, Rebecca Eller, will be there leading a decoupage craft comprised of recycled materials. On May 11th the Friends will hold their annual meeting and induct five new board members. The Board thanked Ms. Kline for her report and all of the Friends for their good work.

The schedules of bills dated April 6, 2010, and April 14, 2010 were reviewed and unanimously approved by the Board upon motion of Trustee McGarr, seconded by Trustee Macfarlane. The Board received the performance report dated April 6, 2010.

The Director reported that Ms. Eller had attended the NYLA (New York Library Association) Youth Services Conference in Albany April 9 and found it both informative and enjoyable.

The progress of the Childrens Room renovation was discussed and deemed on schedule. Our construction manager from Calgi, Ken Sans, has been extraordinarily wonderful; he has dealt with the inevitable snags and problems with creativity and good humor that keeps everyone working together. The Board discussed celebrations and opening festivities which will need to be planned before everyone scatters for the summer. Trustee Dubitsky will ask members of the ad hoc fundraising committee if they will assist with these projects. Whether any should dovetail with Truck Day on October 2 was discussed.

The Board considered revisions to LPLs privacy policy. After discussion and several amendments, the Board unanimously approved the revised policy upon motion of Trustee Dubitsky, seconded by Trustee Birch.

The meeting adjourned at 7:40 PM. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board will be May 12, 2010 at 6:30 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,

Diane Courtney
Library Director
