Minutes of Meeting

February 8, 2017

The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on February 8, 2017 at 6:45 p.m., attended by Board Chair Pamela Dubitsky (PD), Trustees Lauren Gottfried (LG), Maureen LeBlanc (ML), Barbara Liptack (BL) and John McGarr (JM) and Linnet Tse (LT), Friends of the Library Liaison Sandy Bernstein (SB), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), Head of Library Reference Liam Hegarty (LH), and Library Staff Assistant Ryan Madonna (RM). Trustee Jennifer Conley, Village of Larchmont Liaison Carol Miller and Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Ernie Odierna were absent.

Board Chair PD called the meeting to order at 6:46 p.m.

The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Minutes of the Board Meeting of January 11, 2016.

Friends of the Larchmont Public Library Liaison Report

SB reported that Ben Zimmer’s program on “The Power of Language in Hamilton: The Musical” was attended by a large crowd, and that sports writer Dan Barbarisi will discuss his new book in an upcoming program. SB announced that the Friends were making a $1,000 donation to the Library in honor of Director Eckley’s Literacy Award from the Rotary Club of Larchmont for her contributions to the Larchmont/Mamaroneck community. LE stated that the donation will be used in to support literacy, including programs focusing on financial literacy for teens. The Board thanked the Friends for the donation and their continued support, and expressed its appreciation to LE for her commitment to the community.

Committee Reports

Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: 

The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Schedule of Bills dated 2/3/17 and 2/8/17, with an amendment noting that, in accordance with New York State law, the MTA Tax should no longer be paid by the library. The Board approved the Performance Report dated 2/3/17.

Building and Grounds

Transformation Project: LE reported that Library Interiors will return later this month for a final visit to complete their work. LE also reported that MVM has one additional backordered item to be installed along with punch list work.

Director’s Report

LE reported on responsibilities for new Librarian Alex Gaete. LE further reported that Librarian June Hesler’s Great Courses program on American History is well attended by an active and engaged group of participants and that the children’s librarians completed their annual Winter Blues Reading Tour, visiting the local elementary schools. LE also reported that Children’s Librarian Linnea Moosmann attended an ALSC Conference in Atlanta and returned with fresh ideas on programming and displays and that Teen Librarian Kim Larsen’s study breaks in The Loft during mid-terms had a great turnout, with the entire Library in use by students during mid- term week.

Executive Session

The Board voted unanimously to enter Executive Session at 7:47 p.m. to discuss legal matters. The Board voted unanimously to exit Executive Session at 8:00 p.m.

Board Chair Dubitsky adjourned the meeting at 8:01 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board will be held on March 8, 2017.
