Minutes of Meeting

March 8, 2017

The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on March 8, 2017 at 6:45 p.m., attended by Board Chair Pamela Dubitsky (PD), Trustees Jennifer Conley (JC), Lauren Gottfried (LG), Maureen LeBlanc (ML), Barbara Liptack (BL), John McGarr (JM) and Linnet Tse (LT), Friends Liaison Sandy Bernstein (SB), Village of Larchmont Liaison Carol Miller (CM), Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Ernie Odierna (EO), and Library Director Laura Eckley (LE).
Board Chair PD called the meeting to order at 6:50 p.m.
The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Minutes of the Board Meeting of February 8, 2017

Friends of the Larchmont Public Library Liaison Report

SB reported on recent and upcoming programs. SB stated that the Friends’ Annual Spelling Bee will take place on Sunday, April 2 and that the Friends were still looking for teams to join the Bee. PD thanked the Friends for their hard work and creative programming.

Committee Reports

Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Schedule of Bills dated 3/2/17 and 3/8/17 with an amendment noting that, in accordance with New York State law, the MTA Tax should no longer be paid by the library. The Board approved the Performance Report dated 3/2/17.

Building and Grounds

Transformation Project: LE reported that Library Interiors has one additional visit scheduled for late March to complete their work. LE also reported on the status of punch list items following a walk through with MVM and Lothrop. LE further reported that the interior plaques and signage would be installed during the week of 3/20.

Director’s Report

On the recommendation of LE the Board unanimously approved the hire of part time Children’s Librarian Jonathan Heifitz at an hourly rate of $28 effective 2/28/17 . LE reported on the upcoming programs organized by Reference Librarian Alex Gaete for National Poetry Month in April, the Adult 2017 Summer Reading Game plans being put together by Reference Librarians June Hesler and Paul Doherty and the success of the February Break programs held by Children’s Librarians Rebecca Teglas and Linnea Moosmann. LE also reported that the Library’s e-newsletter will be divided into two separate mailings for Youth and Adults starting in March.

Executive Session

The Board voted unanimously to enter Executive Session at 7:45 p.m. to discuss legal matters. The Board voted unanimously to exit the Executive Session at 7:50 p.m.
JM made a motion, seconded by BL, to approve the following resolution, which the Board then passed unanimously:

Resolved, that upon the advice of legal counsel, the Board of Trustees of the Larchmont Public Library hereby (1) approves a settlement agreement with Richard F. Hein, Architect P.C., in connection with the renovation of the Children’s Room, completed in 2010, and (2) authorizes Board Chair Pamela Dubitsky to sign such settlement agreement on behalf of the Library.  

Board Chair Dubitsky adjourned the meeting at 7:53 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board will be held on April 5, 2017.
