Minutes of Meeting
June 13, 2018
The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on June 13, 2018 at 6:45 p.m., attended by Board Chair Pamela Dubitsky (PD), Board Trustees Jennifer Conley (JC), Barbara Flickinger (BF), Barbara Liptack (BL), John McGarr (JM), Lauren Gottfried and Linnet Tse (LT), Village of Larchmont Liaison Sarah Bauer (SB), Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Jeffery King (JK), Friends of the Library Liaison Sandy Bernstein (SB), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), Library Head of Reference Liam Hegarty (LH), Head of Youth Services Rebecca Teglas (RT) and Library Staff Assistant D.J. Brucciani (DB).
Board Chair Dubitsky called the meeting to order at 6:50 p.m.
PD welcomed new Library Trustee Barbara Flickinger who will serve a 5 year term as Library Board Trustee.
Board Meeting Minutes
The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Minutes of the Board Meeting of May 9, 2018.
Friends of the Larchmont Public Library Liaison Report
SB reviewed the success of recent programs including a very special Afternoon of Jazz presented by instructors at Larchmont Music Academy. SB further reported that the Friends’ annual magazine subscription appeal had been mailed out. PD thanked the Friends for all their successful programming during the past year and their continued support of the Library.
Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Schedule of Bills dated 6/8/18, 6/13/18 and 6/15/18. The Board reviewed and approved the Performance Report dated 6/8/18.
LE reported on the status of New York State and Municipal Facility Program Grants (SAM) for the Library Transformation Project, noting that the library has received (1) the $125,000 SAM grant, obtained with the assistance of state Assemblyman Steve Otis and (2) official notice from NYS that the funds for the $100,000 SAM grant, obtained with the assistance of former State Senator George Latimer, would be dispersed on 6/14/18.
Upon the recommendation of Director Eckley, the Board unanimously approved the hire of seasonal Library Clerks Veronica Berger, Nick Vanderpool and Margot Zeitoun. LE reported that Summer Reading Games for all age levels were underway with loads of programs, events and prizes planned throughout the summer. LE also reported that (1) she recorded a “Beach Reads” program for LMCTV with Mamaroneck Library Director Susan Riley, which will be shown throughout the summer, (2) e-newsletters highlighting the library’s downloadable resources and museum pass program would be sent out in the near future and (3) Anderson’s Bookstore will now be selling coffee mugs to benefit the Library. The Board discussed the e-newsletters and noted, in particular, how impressive the library’s e-resources collection is and how important it is to educate the community about the availability of this resource.
Head of Youth Services Librarian Rebecca Teglas gave a presentation to the Board regarding the hours for the Children’s Room and requested that the Board consider extending the hours of the Children’s Room past 5pm on Thursday evenings. After some discussion, the Board requested additional information and tabled discussion until July 2018.
Board Chair Dubitsky adjourned the meeting at 8:00 p.m.
