“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
So sayeth Arthur C. Clarke. He must have known about our computer system migration because everyone’s holds seem to have magically disappeared. The magicians at the Westchester Library System are aware of this. They are working to restore everyone’s holds just as they were before March 10 when the migration began. They suggest that you not “replace” holds that may have disappeared as that may disturb the recovery process. In other migration news, our self-check and catalog search computers still aren’t talking to the new computer system. We are working on it. We are also starting the process of checking in all the items that were returned during the shut down. Even though nothing should be due until the 16th, we are checking in everything as if it was returned on March 10. Holds deliveries began again today, but there is a large backlog.
Basically, all we can do is take a deep breath and wait for the technology people to work their magic.
