Camp Midnight – A Graphic Novel Summer
For many children summer time means bug bites, ice cream, and CAMP! For the character in this graphic novel it means, Camp Midnight; a seemingly ordinary summer camp that’s actually a ghoulish getaway for ghosts and monsters. Check out this new silly and scary addition to our graphic novel collection!
by Steven T. Seagle
Genre: Fantasy
Summary: Skye is bummed about spending the summer with her dad and her “step-monster”. She is even more horrified when she discovers she’s being sent to sleep-away camp. Located deep in the woods with canoes and cabins, Camp Midnight may look like an ordinary place to spend the summer but when the sun sets the campers and counselors reveal themselves to be monsters, ghouls, goblins, vampires, werewolves, banshees and other creatures that go bump in the night. There must have been a mistake! Skye must hide the fact that she’s human and learn to fit in with her fellow campers. Could this lead to a dangerous disaster or the best summer ever?
For kids who like: the Ben 10 series, The Sandwich Thief by Andre Marios, Earthling! by Mark Fearing, The Lunch Witch by Deb Lucke
Age group: 9+
This Librarian’s Opinion: I liked this graphic novel because I really liked Skye. I am a fan of strong female characters. In the midst of all kinds of creatures and creepy-crawlies, Skye, is the same brash, outspoken character we see in the beginning of the book but transforms from angry, sarcastic tween to ferocious friend. A good read for those heading to camp!
