Forms and Printing at the Library

Right about now people start making their annual pilgrimage to the Library in search of tax forms. Tax forms will be discussed later in this post, but first a word about printing in general. We understand that many people rely on Library computers to print out things they need for their life such as DMV forms and the like. The fact that our building is closed does not mean we can’t still help you. We will print what you need and you can get it using Curbside Pickup. Here’s what you do:

Contact the Reference Desk (914-834-2281 x.3 or larchmontlibrary@wlsmail.org) and tell us what you need. It might just be the form number, if you have it. For example, “I lost my social security card. They tell me I need an SS-5.” If you don’t know the form number, we can help you figure out what what we should print. Or you can attach what you need printed to an email and send it to us.

Once we tell you that we’ve printed out what you need, then you can go ahead and make your Curbside Appointment to pick it up. Then we’ll put your print job outside in a brown paper bag, just like a book!

We will not charge you for the print costs, so be please be reasonable in your requests. We aren’t going to print your doctoral thesis, for example. Also, the need for a curbside appointments means you will not be able to get your job the same day. You will have to plan ahead.

On to taxes! First off, both the IRS and New York prefer that you submit your taxes electronically. If you meet certain income levels, they provide free software to do so.

Still, many of our patrons prefer to submit their taxes the old-fashioned way, on paper. We have received many of the Federal tax forms but are not slated to get New York State forms until February. When we get them, we’ll put a post on our webpage. You don’t have to wait for the paper forms to be sent here, however. IRS forms can be downloaded from https://www.irs.gov/forms-instructions. New York forms are available at https://www.tax.ny.gov/forms/. If you want to have Federal forms mailed to you, go here, choose the forms you want and give them your address. If you know of someone who doesn’t have a computer, have them call us and we’ll do it for them.

Tax forms must be picked up via Curbside Appointment.

Finally, it is in our nature to try to help people find out the information they need. We are not accountants, however. We do not understand tax law and do not profess to do so. It is actually unethical for us to offer tax advice. So, while we can help you find Form XYZ, we cannot tell you if Form XYZ is the right form for your return.
