Minutes of Meeting

September 9, 2021

The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met via zoom on September 9, 2021, attended by Library Board Chair Lauren Gottfried (LG), Board Trustees Barbara Flickinger (BF), Barbara Liptack (BL), John McGarr (JM), Celeste Sharpe (CS), and Linnet Tse (LT) Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), Library Head of Reference Liam Hegarty (LH) Library Staff Assistant DJ Brucciani (DB) and Friends of the Library Liaison Jennifer Rabina (JR). Village of Larchmont Liaison Sarah Bauer (SB) and Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Jeffery King (JK) were absent.
Board Chair Lauren Gottfried called the meeting to order at 6:47pm.

Friends

JR reported on the FOL plans for the upcoming season.

Committee Reports

Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board unanimously approved Board Chair LG to authorize bill payments through the end of September 2021. 
LE reported that the Finance Committee is working on a draft of the FY22/23 Library Budget.

Building and Grounds

LE reported on the damage to the Library’s lower level due to the flooding on 8/26/21. LE updated the Board on the progress of the VOL’s insurance claim for the event, restoration and immediate actions being taken. LE reported that the Library’s entire nonfiction collection would need to be placed in storage during the restoration of the lower level.
LE further reported that the new WiFi equipment from WLS has been installed and that the woman’s main floor toilet has been replaced.
After discussion the Board unanimously approved the Library’s grant application to the NYS Library Construction Grant Program for LED Lighting in upper level fiction and lower level nonfiction.

Director’s Report

LE updated the Board on current Library services. On the recommendation of LE the Board unanimously approved restoring Sunday hours, 12 noon to 5pm, effective 9/19/21. LE reported that traffic has been heavy in all departments and the CR has been particularly busy as the start of school has been delayed. LE further reported that outdoor programs in Constitution Park will be increased this fall as the weather becomes milder and that patrons remain extremely happy with the Library’s programming offerings for all ages.
LE stated that she had accepted the resignation of Senior Library Clerk Emily Zenner. LE praised Emily for her hard work and service to the Library. Upon the recommendation of LE the Board unanimously approved the hire of part time Library Clerk Jessica Susanto effective 8/22/21, at a rate of $15.50 an hour.

Additional Items

After discussion the Library Board approved the 2022 Service Level Agreement between the Library Public Library and the Westchester Library System. The motion passed with one abstention.

The next scheduled Board Meeting will be held on October 13, 2021 at 6:45pm.
