Together: An Inspiring Response to the “Separate-But-Equal” Supreme Court Decision that Divided America with author Amy Nathan
Wednesday, May 5th at 7:00 pm. Mamaroneck and Larchmont Public Libraries invite you to a presentation with Amy Nathan, author of Together: An Inspiring Response to the “Separate-But-Equal” Supreme Court Decision that Divided America.
The book TOGETHER intertwines Keith Plessy and Phoebe Ferguson’s personal journeys with a compact presentation of the history of the 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson Supreme Court case, its disastrous aftermath, and continuing negative impact today. An Afterword in TOGETHER lists other organizations that, like the Plessy & Ferguson Foundation, that Keith and Phoebe founded, are also working to bring people together across racial divides. The 125th anniversary of that infamous 1896 Supreme Court decision occurs this spring, on May 18, 2021.
Amy Nathan is an award-winning author of books for young people & adults on music, civil rights, women’s history, dance— and more. She will be joined by Keith Plessy and Phoebe Ferguson, direct descendants of the two principals in the 1896 court case.
