Service Update – March 16

The Larchmont Public Library will be closed through Sunday, March 29th and possibly longer as a precaution against the spread of the COVID-19 virus. At this time there is no known case of infection associated with the Library and staff are all well. As we continue to evaluate the situation, you can keep up to date by visiting this page and our Facebook page. You can also sign up for our enewsletter. Staff is monitoring our email, larchmontlibrary@wlsmail.org, so please contact us with any questions or concerns. We are in the process of setting up remote access to the catalog so that we can issue new library cards and renew expired ones from our homes so our patrons have access to our online services.

During the library closure we will not be accepting the return of materials you have checked out. We ask that you keep materials and museum passes and return them after we re-open. No fines will accrue for any of your checked out materials while we are closed.

Our building may be closed, but the online Library is open for business. Check out our eBooks, etc. page where you can download and/or stream books, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers, music and movies all for free. Kanopy, one of our movie streaming services, has a selection of movies you can watch without using any of your monthly credits. The Westchester Library System has graciously doubled user credits for both Kanopy and Hoopla. We have added RBdigital Entertainment which will give you unlimited Acorn TV, Great Courses and more. You can watch all the Doc Martin you want, for free and forever.

We will be buying more eBooks and eAudiobooks than usual during the closure. In fact, we started two weeks ago. This is partially funded by a generous donation from the Friends of the Larchmont Public Library. We monitor holds and recommendations made in Overdrive (a.ka. Libby). If you want something we don’t have, recommend it! eBooks are expensive so no promises, but we’ll consider buying it.

If you have kids home from school, Tutor.com has expanded its tutoring hours, between now and June 15, students can connect with tutors Monday through Friday, from 9am to 10pm. We are sure your children will be thrilled.

Deliveries between libraries are suspended. Right now all holds are frozen. They will not expire while we are closed.
